On November 6, 2026, AkzoNobel and Axalta announced that the European Commission had conditionally approved their proposed all-stock merger of equals. The companies previously said the combined business would be named Axanzo and have approximately $17 billion in annual revenue.
Completion is expected in early 2027. The approval is an important step toward closing, but it is conditional and does not itself mean the merger has been completed.

Combining the two companies could alter competitive dynamics in the global coatings market. The effect on customers and suppliers will depend in part on how the businesses are brought together after closing, including any changes to their product offerings and supply arrangements.
For now, the conditions attached to the approval and the progress toward closing are key developments to follow. Longer-term effects on competition and supply chains will depend on the transaction being completed and on subsequent integration decisions.
